Slussfors is in a scenic and strategic location next to the Ume River and the E12 Blue Route in Southern Lapland, midway between Storuman and Tärnaby. In the village you are in direct proximity to the Vindelfjällen nature reserve and the wilderness of the primeval forest Kirjesålandet. The village is located between the two bridges Portbron in the west and Kirjesåbron in the east. Several narrow passages along the Umeälven and Kirjesån rivers have given the village its name.

This is the natural starting point for your adventures in the wilderness and mountains of Gratian. You can stock up on provisions in the village’s well-stocked general store for your excursions and refuel/load your vehicles. If you want to go hiking, fishing, dog sledding or berry picking in forests and bogs throughout the area, information is available at the shop.

There are fine snowmobile trails throughout the area, a ski stadium with an illuminated track for cross-country skiing and running, a small slalom slope with lift and barbecue area, a disc golf course, both indoor and outdoor gyms, and an ice hockey rink and gymnasium at the school. The fibre network is well developed throughout the village.

Slussfors functions as a service centre in the area with childcare, school, home care services and home nursing under the auspices of the municipality. Storumans sjukstuga also runs a health room in the school where tests and video conferences with doctors and others can be booked.

Slussfors Interest Association has set up a book exchange centre and a defibrillator at the shop.
