Ankarsund is located on a peninsula near Lake Storuman. With water on three sides, the village has often been called the pearl of Lake Storuman. On the south side of the strait, with one of the greatest depths in Storuman (about 130 metres), are some more of the village’s farms. North of the village, at the top of the steep Hemberget, there is a beautiful viewpoint over the village and over Lake Storuman.

Fishing has always been important to the villagers and Överumans fisk has some of its fish farms in the village. At Ankarsund’s fishing and outdoor camp at the bottom of Gardsjöbäcken there are good opportunities for fishing in flowing water. Gardsjöbäcken is very beautiful upstream, with several waterfalls, pools and potholes. There are windbreaks and barbecue areas.
Between the E12 and the village there is a system of trapping pits and bark pits. These artefacts show that the village has a thousand-year history of feeding both Sami and settlers. Another interesting visitor attraction in the village is the outdoor dance floor that was built in 19XX as far as possible from the village hall where religious meetings were held and about 100 metres into the forest. Today the forest has been cut down, but the dance floor and the historical description remain. A signposted path leads to the place where the dance floor was. Today, Ankarsund’s Interest Association runs FolketsHus with a kitchen, a restaurant and a stage that can be hired for various activities.
